Whimsey
Whimsey Loves Mom!!
“Yay! Ducks!” Whimsey pranced into the cool, shallow lake. She quickly paddled toward the quacking fowl who were sizing her up: friend or foe?
Friend!
I almost got one! Did you see me?
The ducks raced toward her. They chatted and teased her. This is Whimsey’s special play date. She quickly swam circles around them, trying to catch one. Allegedly trying to catch one. Actually, the chase is the fun.
No ducks, thanks.
Bubbles looked on. “Better her than me,” she thought. Pugs aren’t built to chase ducks and we’re certainly not great in water. But this was a tough decision as Bubbles counts on Whimsey to show her how to be a dog.
Am I a good dog, Whimsey?
As the ducks darted away, Mom Kelsey called Whimsey to the shore. Bubbles ran to Whimsey and tried to engage in a round of their Puppy Fight Club. She circled Whimsey and spouted her sharp “Whoof, Whoof.”
Actually, Whimsey would rather have Mom dry her off. Dad Andy sweeps Bubbles Pig - as she is often called - into his arms. Another joyful day for the girls.
Best sisters ever!
Their friendship - their “Best Sisters Ever” relationship began when Bubbles joined their home in late July, 2021. Kelsey grew up with Pugs and while she loves her Whimsey, she missed her Pug bug who died in 2016. For more than two years, Whimsey alone embraced the love of Mom and Dad.
Then, Mom found a Pug with whom she was smitten. It was a beautiful and exciting drive to Missouri on July 24, 2021, part of their pawrade.com agreement to bring Bubbles to her forever home.
Beautiful Bubbles
She was a sweet, thin little Pug girl who crawled right into their hearts.
Meanwhile, on their trip, Whimsey happily rode the roads with Mom and Dad depositing kisses when necessary. They again told her about her own rescue. She was in a Safe Hands Rescue shelter, living in a bathtub with her littermates. It kept them safe as kids and big dogs ran everywhere. Kelsey and Andy were moving into a new home and found the pup adorable, but they feared she would grow too large for them. Still intrigued, they returned to the foster home two weeks later, where the little, 13 week old girl was waiting for them. They determined she would not get much larger. It was August 9, 2019 and everyone fell in love.
Yes, I am 100% Wonderful Whimsey!
They decided to secure Whimsey’s DNA and the results are delightful. She’s not *quite* Heinz 57, but close enough. The percentages are:

Whimsey’s expressive ears!
Now, with a new baby Pug in their arms, they arrived home and Whimsey began her intense “here’s how to be a dog” training. Bubbles was an excellent apprentice, following and imitating Whimsey every waddle and woof of the way. Except chasing ducks.
Intense “How to be a dog” training continues
Mom and Dad both work from home, so there’s plenty of opportunity for chaos. And walks. In fact, every day, they enjoy a brisk, 3 mile walk. They’re called Whimventures, where they Whimvestigate. A lot of sniffing and marking is involved. And Bubbles is watching every step of the way. It’s as if Whimsey’s every move is imprinted on Bubbles. While Whimsey can clock a long walk, Bubbles is good going around the block. Bubbles trucks like a work horse, until it’s time to pick her up. Everyone understands.
So much love (and a bit of chaos)
During the work day, Whimsey and Bubbles are engaged in their own important duties. Sitting atop the sofa (think riding a horse), both can easily gaze out the sliding glass doors. This ensures any possible intruder, any enemy, any squirrel that dares wander near the house - is on notice.
Alert!
Whimsey begins with a fast, loud string of barks. Although she was fast asleep, Bubbles knows that’s her cue: she also begins barking - at whatever needs to be warned. Good job, girls.
We’ll protect you!
Soon they settle down and climb back atop the sofa. Mom and Dad barely even notice.
We love Mom and Dad
For fun, Whimsey will gently hold Bubbles’ hind legs in her snout and drag her down the hall. It’s a special tease/play game that only they understand. Bubbles learned quickly that Whimsey will also “enjoy” her toys - to their death. Whimsey thinks Bubbles is her own, personal play thing. She will steal Bubbles’ toy and walk away with it. The soft Cabbage Patch doll (which she picked out herself at a garage sale) and the Pink Lizard toys are especially vulnerable! Yet Bubbles is somehow fine with her sister’s antics.
Family Fun Time
Carver Lake Veterinary Center was delighted to welcome Whimsey’s sister Bubbles to their family. While she’s a skinny Pug - only 14 pounds - she definitely has the Pug snout. Dad reports that she sounds like she’s “percolating.” That grand mouth is also used to give sloppy kisses. Lots and lots of kisses. And air kisses.
BOOP!
Cozy!
Bubbles may have her songs, but Whimsey has dramatic ears. They tell Mom what’s on her mind. Straight back - look out fiend! I see you! At 30 pounds, Mom is pretty sure she is part cat.
Look at that face! She’s a SuperMutt! So much to love!
Oh, yeah. To the left!
Whimsey is bestowed with nicknames including:
Whimmy, Toots, WhimmyToots, Tootslula, Whimmifer, Wooty Tooty Bear, Honey Baby Sweety Bear and Scary Bear. Whimsey doesn’t care what you call her, as long it’s not late for dinner.
Dinner?
There’s room in the backyard for plenty of chasing and teasing. In the Summer, the girls will enjoy a refreshing kiddie pool to cool their paws, although Bubbles needs extra encouragement. (No ducks, Bubbles!)
For SuperMutt Whimsey Tootslula and her bestie Bubbles Pig, they’re living that best, most blessed life that they prayed for.
In this home, all prayers were answered.
A blessed forever family.
